Sinead Kelly London Win The World L’Oreal Young Talent Award
We have some exciting news! The Sinéad Kelly London team has won the World L’Oreal Young Talent Award. In June, we were blown away to win the UK trophy after winning the London heats at the start of the year. It’s been a hat-trick of awards!
First, we won first place in the regional heats….
Then we were crowned Best in the UK….
And now Best in the whole World!

Plus, to win the International L’Oréal Professionnel Young Talent Award at the first ever International L’Oréal Professionel Style & Colour Trophy is a big deal. The awards took place at the Meo Arena in front of an International audience of over 2000 hairdressers from 65 countries.
This video shows the atmosphere on the night as our model Natasha Underwood showed off her blue bob to the jury. Then we found out we’d won and Vas gave a little speech:
The international Jury comprised of 5 top experts: Heath Grout from the USA,Harumi Iwakami from Kakimoto Arms Japan, Sally & Jamie Brooks, Brooks & Brooks UK and Cecile Piel-Benson, International Technical Director, L’Oréal Professional Product, selected the winners.
DID YOU KNOW?
The L’Oréal Professionnel Style & Colour Trophy is the longest running live hair competition in the world. First launched in the UK in 1954 and focused only on colour, it has spread globally, from Canada to New Zealand, Taiwan to Argentina, and has been extended to styling since 2016 to reward the top experts in this field. It has always stressed the importance of not only showing technical expertise in ensuring the hair is kept in great condition, but also the importance of creating an on-trend total look (with hair colour, cut & style, make-up and clothes complementing the model).
The salon already attracts clients from all across London and the South East and since winning the UK colour trophy, we’ve had calls from customers all around the country.
For our winning look colourist Vas Mikellidis and stylist Sara Bergantini created a fashion forward Autumn/Winter 2016/17 look based on the denim trend on model Natasha Underwood.
However, a lot of work went into creating this fashion-forward style. Our journey began in January, when we came up with a concept. Vas used his drawing skills to come up with this mood board:
The first part of the colour trophy competition required a photographic entry, and we sent off our photos of Natasha’s transformation. It took a long time to create the blue bob, because she started off as a brunette as you can see from the photo below:
STAGE ONE
The second stage of the process was to dye the hair a yellow shade of blonde as you can see from the next photo below:
STAGE TWO
The third stage was the most time-consuming as we took Natasha from yellow blonde to white blonde. This is because any traces of yellow in her hair would turn the blue dye into a green shade and so we had to make her hair completely white. It took 15 hours to do this as the hair needed to be bleached twice. While this was going on, we kept her hair in immaculate condition with in-salon Pro Fiber and take-home Pro-Fiber.
Only when it was white blonde did the colour go on and we ended up with our winning blue look:
STAGE THREE
Our photographic entry secured us a place in the regional heats , where we impressed the judges with our live hairdressing skills and fashion led look.
STAGE FOUR
We won the UK final after a tense competition. The UK final lasted all day and night, starting with an full day of competition at the L’Oréal International Academy in London’s Hammersmith. The judges, leaders in the industry, were: Issie Churcher from HOB, Steve Rowbottom from Westrow, Paul Dennison from Ken Picton, Errol Douglas MBE, Richard Ward from Richard Ward Hair & Metrospa and Adam Percy from Percy & Reed who were given the task of selecting the nine regional winners and the ultimate winner from the final 36 finalists

STAGE FIVE
We travelled to Lisbon, Portugal for a few days. We were surrounded by talented teams from Argentina, Canada, Colombia, Czech Rep & Slovakia, Great Britain, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Korea, New Zealand, Poland, Mexico and Taiwan.
Then our name was read out and we went on stage to collect flowers and the prestigious trophy.
We’re very thankful to our celebrity clients like Holly Willoughby who found time to send us a message while she was in the dressing room getting ready for This Morning.
